Sourcing & Sampling · 1 min read

Before production: a clearer way to review your sample.

A simple framework for discussing appearance, components and the questions that still need an answer.

Open and closed cosmetic compact packaging for visual sample review

Set the purpose of the sample

Ask what the sample is intended to demonstrate. A reference sample, structural sample and decorated sample may answer different questions.

Note any details that are provisional so that the review focuses on the parts that can be evaluated at this stage.

Review against a written checklist

Compare the sample with the agreed brief, artwork and configuration. Record your comments on appearance, assembly and the opening or dispensing experience.

Keep formula compatibility and filling evaluations with the appropriate technical teams. A visual approval alone should not be treated as the answer to every functional question.

Close the loop before approval

Return one consolidated set of comments, with photographs where they help explain a specific issue. Clearly identify the sample version being discussed.

Confirm any changes, remaining evaluations and the agreed next step in writing before authorizing production.

Bring your packaging brief into focus.

Discuss your format, sample requirements and next steps with MCPA.
